ACI CI HYGT – Iemmulo and Ruggiero set the pace in Texas
Published on
The Circuit of The Americas hosted the fourth round of the Italian LMU Championship, featuring an intense and highly technical multi-class race where energy and tyre management made all the difference.
After sixty minutes of hard-fought action, victory went to Dario Iemmulo in the Hypercar category and Edoardo Ruggiero in LMGT3, both drivers showing great composure in exploiting every strategic detail on the demanding Texan circuit.
Hypercar — Iemmulo returns to victory
After Di Buono’s victory at Le Mans, Dario Iemmulo responded like a champion and claimed success in Austin, securing pole position (1:50.571) and dominating the race from start to finish.
Behind him, Marco Di Buono tried to stay within striking distance throughout the race, but was never able to find a real opportunity to attack.
The fight for the podium was decided on outright pace: Leonardo Passoni finished ahead of Simone Violo and Luca Lo Monaco, with Alessandro Nevi in sixth place.
The fastest lap, a 1:52.800, went to the winner Iemmulo, who with the pole + fastest lap combination takes maximum points and strengthens his lead in the Hypercar championship.
LMGT3 — Ruggiero and Di Buono outsmart Bonaccorsi in the closing stages
In GT3, the Austin race turned into a long strategic duel between Marcello Bonaccorsi, Edoardo Ruggiero and Matteo Di Buono, with a surprise-filled finale.
Bonaccorsi, who started from pole position, led the race for almost its entire duration, apparently keeping the chasing pack under control.
In the closing stages, however, differences in virtual energy management reshuffled the order: Ruggiero, thanks to more efficient use of his Aston Martin, was able to push hard in the final laps, taking the race lead while Bonaccorsi and Leonardo Porco were forced to slow down to remain within the limits.
Taking advantage of the situation was also Matteo Di Buono, who first got past Porco and then closed in on the leading duo, eventually overtaking Bonaccorsi just a few corners before the chequered flag.
Behind them, Porco and Vella completed the top five, while Filippi, slowed by technical issues, was unable to finish the race.
The fastest lap of the category once again went to Ruggiero, with an impressive 2:08.666.
Race Direction — a disciplined round with a few incidents
The Race Direction nevertheless had to intervene in several situations, handing out penalties to multiple drivers involved in close-contact incidents, especially during the opening phases.
Overall, however, the race was clean and well managed, a sign that the drivers are now finding the right balance in the complex coexistence between Hypercar and GT3.
Towards Bahrain
With the Austin round completed, the championship moves to the Middle East for the penultimate round of the season, scheduled at the Bahrain International Circuit.
The Sakhir circuit, with its long straights and heavy braking zones, will once again put energy and tyre management to the test — factors that are becoming increasingly decisive in this closing phase of the season.
The appointment is set for Tuesday, 25 November 2025 at 21:00.
