ACI CI HYGT – Iemmulo and Filippi dominate in the Ardennes rain

Published on

After its debut in Qatar, the Italian GT3 and Hypercar Championship on LMU arrived at Spa-Francorchamps, one of the most iconic and demanding circuits on the calendar. Between variable weather, strategy calls and complex lapping situations, the second round of the season delivered spectacle and dramatic twists, with Dario Iemmulo and Guglielmo Filippi emerging as the standout protagonists in their respective categories.

Hypercar – Iemmulo makes it two, Zanelotti surprises Di Buono

In Hypercar, Dario Iemmulo confirmed his supremacy among the sweeping corners of Spa. Starting from second place behind Marco di Buono — pole sitter in 1:59.556 and winner of the 2 bonus points — the driver took the lead after a flawless start and never relinquished it until the chequered flag, finishing in 1:00:52.977.

Behind him, Andrea Zanelotti secured a valuable second place (+23.2 s) after a consistent, mistake-free race, while Di Buono, third at +25.2 s, paid the price for a 15-second time penalty and 3 license points for a collision with Manuel Lastella in the middle stages of the race.
Fourth place went to Leonardo Passoni, followed by Leonardo Pagano and Antonio Piscitello, with Lastella himself finishing seventh after an otherwise solid performance.

Further back, Alessandro Corso, Simone Bisoglio and Luca Lo Monaco completed the top ten, all delayed by minor mistakes or post-race penalties. Di Buono nevertheless also claimed the bonus point for the fastest lap, confirming once again a reference-level pace.

With two wins from two races, Iemmulo strengthens his championship lead, while behind him the fight for the podium grows ever tighter.

LMGT3 – Filippi fights back in the rain

The GT3 race was a blend of emotion and strategy. Guglielmo Filippi, who started from pole position in 2:18.442, got boxed in at Turn 1 behind a group of Hypercars, leaving the door open for Edoardo Ruggiero, who took advantage to seize the lead and build a significant gap.

When rain arrived over the Ardennes, however, the race was transformed: Filippi found an extraordinary wet-weather pace, closed the gap and decisively reclaimed the lead, going on to win in 1:09:16.768.

Behind him, Ruggiero finished second at +10.2 s — still securing the fastest lap and the bonus point — while Mattia Panci completed the podium with a strong, consistent drive. Leonardo Porco, penalized with 15 seconds and 3 license points, dropped to fourth after fighting for a long time for second place.

They were followed by Matteo di Buono, Gianluca Scalvini and Marco Vella, all protagonists of solid and consistent races. Further back, several penalties reshuffled the second half of the classification, without affecting the leading positions.

Race Direction – order and timely decisions

The Race Direction had plenty of work to do after the race, but handled the checks with promptness and clarity. The interventions, although numerous, were the result of a complex race made demanding by multi-class traffic and constantly changing weather conditions — a sign that the level of competitiveness is extremely high and that drivers are progressively refining on-track coexistence between Hypercar and GT3.

Towards Le Mans

With Spa now in the books, the championship moves to France for the third round of the season at the Circuit de la Sarthe, venue of the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The appointment is set for Tuesday, 28 October 2025 at 21:00, with the Italian GT3 and Hypercar Championship on LMU ready to deliver another spectacular chapter.
