NEWS – SPQRacing officially launches Season 0.5
Published on
We are pleased to announce the official launch of Season 0.5, the first public Season by SPQRacing eSport and a key milestone in the evolution of our championship system.
Season 0.5 is not just another championship: it is a full public test Season, designed to validate the new competitive format ahead of the official debut of Season 1.
What is a Season
A Season is a championship made up of multiple events (rounds), all contributing to a single overall standing.
When you sign up for a Season, you create a global championship entry, which defines:
- car and race number (if applicable)
- eligibility to participate in all Season events
Registering for the Season does not automatically register you for races.
For each round, you must explicitly confirm your participation in the individual event. Only confirmed entries are included on the grid and can score points.
This system ensures flexibility for participants while keeping every race competitive and fair.
Event-based splits using rating
Splits are generated per event, not across the entire Season.
Each server can host:
- up to 10 GT drivers
- up to 10 Hypercar drivers
If registrations exceed these limits, multiple splits are created.
Splits are generated using the SimGrid rating, with the goal of grouping drivers of similar skill level into the same grid, improving race quality and balance.
Points, multipliers and drop rounds
Points are awarded according to the Season points system, with one key additional element:
- each split applies a multiplier based on the average grid rating
- more competitive grids receive a higher multiplier
- final points = base points × split multiplier
To keep the standings fair and accessible:
- the 2 worst results (including missed events) are automatically dropped from the final standings
Consistency is rewarded, without permanently penalizing those who cannot attend every round.
Why Season 0.5
Season 0.5 is a public test Season, created to validate the entire competitive flow under real race conditions:
- global Season entries
- single-event signups
- rating-based splits
- points allocation
- penalty and protest system
- Safety Rating behavior
The key difference is clear:
Any Safety Rating gained or lost during Season 0.5 is temporary.
At the end of the Season, all Safety Ratings will be fully reset, with no carryover to future Seasons.
This allows everyone to participate freely, test the system, and provide feedback without long-term consequences.
Next steps
Season 0.5 will allow us to:
- refine the penalty and Safety Rating systems
- stress-test the platform with real participation
- collect structured feedback from drivers and teams
All of this in preparation for a solid, stable, and definitive Season 1.
Season 0.5 marks the beginning of a new phase for SPQRacing eSport.
We invite you to take part, race, and actively contribute to shaping the future of our competitions.
